Sig, I should say that after I replaced the accumulator and it didn't seem to fix the problem I immediately brought the car to my generally well-respected indy shop, where it sat for a month.
He said when he connected his shop computer to the ABS ECU, it didn't come up with any recognition signal or handshake, although he said that "voltage was going into the ECU", much less identify whether the accumulators (new and old) were the problem.
Actually, I think he didn't really know what he was doing, given how seldom a BMW+Mercedes+Volvo+Totoyta+SAAB shop would encounter a 1991 C900, with highly technical and obscure problems with the ABS system. and I'm not sure he accessed the computer interface under the rear seat, rather than messing with the various terminals on the hydraulics assembly under the hood.
Since it was obvious I didn't have very deep pockets, he basically told me to get the car out of his shop and figure out how to deal with it myself. (So far he hasn't billed to my credit card the time that he did put into it.)
I live in a rural area and was able to nurse it home the 25 miles using engine braking and the hand brake a little as well.
