to just swap the head unit to the lower din is not a problem at all, however most after market decks now come with built in eq. that quite frankly blows away the oem saab eq. the thing is if you have the eq and deck that you want to pull and replace with a high quality head unit the best thing is to just take the car into a stereo shop and have them swap it out.
minus the cost of the head unit it should only be 100 buxs or so.
best doing it this way because as a do it yourself-er its possible to cross the wires while hooking up the new deck and if this were to happen you could fry the head unit.
so then your out the 400 bux it costed for the unit. being if you take the deck back to the store where you bought it and say it dont work they will send the unit into the company who made it and they will take the deck apart and will see why it dont work which means no warranty refund for you.
with the stereo shop doing the task its all on them if they fry the new unit. if you found a deck you like or have else where buy it and bring it to them and say (i want you to install this in the .lowwer din slot)
after this point hooking up amps, caps, subs, is a peace of cake.
