One of the main reasons the c900 handles so well in my view - a non expert- is the longitudinal engine with its low CoG and equal length drive shafts. The control arm layout might contribute to handling as well. This is one of the main reasons you don't find a lot of great handling newer FWD cars out there. Even our Renault 5 with its 1.4 Liter engine handled great with its longitudinal engine.
Don't know if there is a connection but Subaru and Saab seem to have won a lot of rally races and both have uncompromising engine locations/layouts with low CoG. Experts will probably have a different view.
