I'm assuming you were referring to my experience...
I had driven a 2001 9-3 a few years ago, and it was a good reminder of how good those cars are. Even the base model is quick. I'm comparing to a NA 2.1L though. But, that speed comes with gobs of torque steer + the handling (as discussed) feels a bit more squidgy if you know what I mean. There is a real solidity to the c900. Other issue I find with the 9-3 is many were leased, records are scarce, there's the sludge problem (unless you find a good 1999), + without records, it's a crap shoot. Lots are rusting too. But for the right price, it's all good...
Overall, 9-3 is a great car, and much more practical as a daily driver now, at least with kids. That said, we're also shopping 9-5's, and I think I like them better. Our 1993 has not yet hit the point of no return rust-wise (we are also "north of the border"), but my parents' 1989 has gone over the cusp (just welded up a control arm mount point crack). I'd like to save ours before the downward spiral really begins!
(btw, I still see some nice c900s for sale here, but they are getting more scarce, for sure)
good luck!
James...
