The difference in 0-60 between a C900 turbo five speed (from Saab's technical specification booklet) and a NG900 5 speed (at least a '98 SE) is about two seconds (low 9s verses low 7s). They improved the car a lot over the years and by '97 it was a very different car. The early "S" models with skinny tires and cloth interiors were pretty dismal (my son had one) but don't judge them all by them. Early C900's had their share of problems which were resolved with later cars ('86 up)too. I've owned 7 C900's and liked them all but my '98 900SE was better at every way you measure a car (faster, quieter, more comfortable, more reliable and cheaper/easier to repair and own). Fit, finish and materials were the equal of any Saab I've owned (including 4 9000's). The only exception is the body work which is a bit more prone to rust than other Saabs I've owned (although it took 11 years and 150K). But then all European manufacturers have cut back on their body work quality in the last 10-12 years.
