174k is IMO too many miles for purchasing a car.. Unless Bottom feeding and one is very knowledgeable in their purchase.
Yes Saabs live long etc etc But only with serious and repeated cash transfusions. 9000's with the TCS system are Far more problematic than those without Avoid them is serious advise. Trans issues pale by comparison. Choice between Autobox and 5 spd versions of a 9000 are actually very slight... reliability wise at least now that they are 10 plus years old.. the inherently faulty ones (of both types) have/should have been 'fixed' or scrapped. 5 spds eat input and diff bearings, suffer ongoing clutch hydraulics issues. Auto's often need valve body resealing.
