vacuum leak question

Okay, so Saturday I discovered that there is a tube leading from a cylindrical object labeled "2.5 bar" above the rear of the engine, to a connector on what I guess is the exhaust--it's sort of four thick cast metal tubes coming together. Anyway, on top of what I presume is the exhaust there is a little round plastic fitting with a connector on the rear side into which this tube is going. It looks like maybe it used to be a T-connected but now is missing the other side of the T? Or else the other side was merely capped off? I don't know; all I know is there is a small hole on what would be the other side of the T, and that hole had suction and when I covered it, my idle went back down to about 900 (from about 1500 which was why I was looking for a vacuum leak). So in advance of figuring out if something more important was supposed to go there, I stuck a piece of electrical tape over the hole, and my idle trouble seemed fixed.
The question is: is there a tube floating around my engine now which was supposed to connect to the other side of that connected? I didn't notice any loose tubes but I certainly may've missed it...
Thank you again for helping a newcomer...
