No, the notch I referred to isn't at the base of the distributor, it's at the lip that directly contacts the base of the cap. All it does is position the cap correctly & aids the clips to keep it from shifting about. Eg, there's only one way the cap can be mounted.
The rotor is off more like 1/16th of a turn...or nearly 3/4 of an inch...not very much, certainly a lot less than the distance between plug wires.
I'm focusing on the possible affects to injector timing based on the orientation of the Hall shutter wheel in relation to the drive dog. I'm worried that compensating for the rotor being pointed a few degrees clockwise by relocating the cap to match isn't enough. I mean, the drive dog will still orient the distributor shaft (& shutter wheel) incorrectly w/the CAMSHAFT - that has to matter.
I know I should just give up & source the correct distributor...but this has gone beyond wanting to make use of what I have available. This is a real brain bender & I want to figure it out! I really wish someone well versed in Bosch LH engine management would tune in here.
