Thanks for the advice folks. I'm pleasently surprised that you folks have had such good luck with fiberglass. I'll give that a shot too as I've done a bit of fiberglass work before (built a sea kayak).
I admit that fitting the cover on to the shell doesn't look too hard. The reason I was leaning toward taking it ti a shop is that I'm concerned about the whole mess falling back down in short order because I didn't use the right adhesive, or didn't apply enough adhesive. Also, are you folks using material that has some backing, to hide minor irregularities on the shell, or are you just going with cloth that doesn't have a backing, so you don't have to deal with the disintegrating foam syndrome down-the-road?
