I'm actually in the middle of re-wiring my 85 900T. If you could find a harness, I'd replace it. Chances of that are somewhat slim.
I found an 88 900T harness in pretty good shape at a salvage yard. I pulled the harness and started with the the back of the engine since that had the most visible damage. I'm basically using the 88 harness for donor color coded wiring. I'd rather have things match up, than simply splice in wire. In addition, the 88 harness has connectors that I can use if need be.
I'm not an electrical guy either, but if you take one section at a time, it's not that daunting of a task. Today, I completed that portion that tracks along the back of the engine. Tormorrow, I'll split the other par, identify what needs to be replaced and get to it. I know for a fact that the cooling fan connectors are shot....bare, exposed wires that overlap.
Look at the space between driver's side fender well and the door....the wires on my car were, for the most part, stripped of any insulation. After looking at some of this wiring I actually wondered how the car even managed to run.
