I'm going through the same re-wiring process on my '86 SPG. Only my "headlight" harness is critically bad so I've pulled it out back to the left fender inner sheet metal, removed the outer plastic sheathing, cut the black tape and will solder-splice only the disintegrated, bad, colored wires, at the point where the insulation gets good again. All of the black wires are "Grounds" and can be isolated as a bunch without being cut as long as they don't touch anything that gets electrically "hot". I'm using color-coded wire from a later model. Haven't figured out the plugs yet. They've fallen apart where they connect (inside the gray plastic) and the round male-female metal parts have me stumped as to what to do. bil
