yeah, so that's all cheap + easy stuff that should have been done on the car anyway...
a while back I was trying to hunt down a problem of rough idle etc.. asked the board, got some good advice, tried a few things, no luck (+ no fault of people on the bb of course - this is awesome!), turned out to be a nearly invisible hairline crack in the black cap that was on the car that our indy spotted... when we gave him the car to look at, I had tossed a new bosch cap + rotor in the trunk "just in case" (which he made good use of)... I should have replaced them before looking anywhere else, but that's the difference between a pro + a beginner like myself... Good learning experience!
when saab #2 started having idle/stalling problems, first thing I did was replace the old cap, rotor (already had new plugs), and the disintegrating battery cable. problem solved. car runs awesome now...
of course it's not always that easy, but the basics are important... fuel, spark... Dan did the right thing... once the baseline stuff is good, can move on to the more fussy stuff... intermittent problems are no fun!
