If you plan to go through it anyway, use the same motor. Probably want to do bearings and rings while you've got it apart too. The blocks on these cars are virtually indestructible. Don't forget the small things like freeze plugs and hoses.
I went through my motor last fall and it was the best thing I ever did for a c900. It's my daily driver and I've had zero problems in 20K miles. No leaks and no oil burning. My wife's 2002 Volvo was in the shop last week so she was driving it. Afterward she commented on how nice it drove. Better than the Volvo she said.
We put a low-mileage replacement in my sons c900 without going through it--didn't have the time. It's still a constant battle with the car and it leaks oil and coolant. Frankly I'm tired of screwing with it and told my son to bite the bullet and pull the motor and rebuild it like I did with mine.
