A lot depends on what you do.
Gaskets, seals, chain guides, chain etc. is about $360 in materials. If you also replace the water pump add $60. If you replace the oil pump add $80. If you do engine bearings add $150. Rings add $85.
You'll also want the head and block checked (and milled/dressed if necessary). That will depend on what machine shop you take it to.
When I did my motor I also replaced as much hardware (nuts/bolts) as I could. That cost me a little over $200.
I also have some minor cost in paint and blast media, because I also wanted it to look as nice as it runs. :-)
