...cylinder. Any liquid that enters key slot drains out bottom of cylinder and down onto steel security cover below key works, then off that down thru the air onto the insulating pads above hump in floor.

Also, Tdubs, the ignition-start switch is positioned "inverted" with its shaft out the bottom, so besides being forwards of and above the key cylinder, it has built-in disinclination to water creeping up the shaft and into it - - gravity.

Even if water did get inside the switch it's not guaranteed to short circuit, plain water is actually an insulator. And it wouldn't stay there long as gravity and also general evaporation will dry it out.

The solvent IS a good idea, that key cylinder if like most is probably full of dried food crumbs and long-ago soda and coffee spills, and the water turns that stuff into a goo that can dry and lock your lock cylinder up so it won't move. It gets onto the bottom of the cylinder area also, along the gear segment train that carries the action forward to the actual ignition switch.

So work the key in and out a lot and give it plenty of solvent to help wash out any crud.

I can't remember just what electrical problems you report - - warning lights on even with ignition OFF? Maybe say what specific lights you're seeing.

Could the Check Engine light have been on before this incident, or have come on due to some other cause, you might ask.
