The motors have a small overload-protect circuit breaker inside them. You need to take the motor can off of the geartrain (2 torx screws) but then you should be able to see the overload protect circuitry, within the brush-carrier. Mine failed on the passenger side, but the rest of the motor was good, so I just bypassed it. They only really serve to protect the motor if a window button gets stuck, or you keep pressing after the window's up or down. As they age, they seem to get more sensitive.
On the driver's side, with its auto-down function, I think the overload-protect is somewhat necessary, because the auto-down is really just a timer relay, so after the window gets down and the relay is still supplying current, it's the overload protector's job to stop it. You could probably find a similar sort of auto-resetting circuit breaker somewhere online.
