we have 2 c900's and they have been great... one was intended to eventually become source of parts for the less-rusty one, but both just keep on ticking (we've split their duties as winter/summer, based on condition)... anyway, with young kids etc, we decided to pick up a newer car, a 2004 9-5, basically a new car by c900 standards. It doesn't have as much character + seat of the pants experience of the c900's, but it is a great touring car: reliable, comfortable, safe, and moderately easy to repair. Cost of ownership is not lower, but it does provide piece of mind. We bought it for c900 money.

I don't understand why Saab didn't sell bazillions of those cars!

Fortunately my wife also likes saabs, so it was an easy choice. We did extended rentals (1000's of miles) in a variety of cars + hated every one of them compared to the 9-5... Might not be a bad thing to refine your collection - think about what's good + bad with each car (to me the biggest factor would be rust/body damage, followed by other massive time/$ investments)... we couldn't possibly own more saabs than we have now (space + time) even though the opportunities have presented themselves!
