It's quite possible a Honda is a good choice.
That said, our Saab indy drives Saabs as do most of his techs. He has a few other cars also, but Saabs are the daily drivers... Maybe your mechanic friend largely knows honda mechanics? I originally lived in a rural area, where the mechanics would swear by GM or Ford depending on their bias... that's all it is really, bias... what Hondas make up for in reliability they give up in other qualities, so it depends what matters...
Justin is bang on re making them right... I have been lazy + not as thorough with our cars as he has, and run into the odd problem... still the c900s have been very good, especially in recent years since I've taken more ownership mechanically (thanks to this bb!)... but, like ZAAB, I've supplemented them with a newer saab for my wife + long trips...
Someone here (maybe Justin) in the past offered good advice: own multiple Saabs, but only 1 project at a time... or always make sure 2 are normally running (so if 1 goes down, it's ok, get the best one back up)... we're in that situation now, and it's not overwhelming.
James...
