Okay, so right now I have 4 900s. A '94 CE that my wife dented last summer and is waiting in a friend's shop for a new quarter panel and reverse gear fix. A 1990 SPG that I just bought that turned out to be a lemon with a bad steering rack, head gasket, heater valve, inner drivers, and clutch. Another identical parts car, and a 1980 that the power steering just went out and I can't figure out how to get the stupid brakes to stop squeeling. I've been working on them all way too late every night and don't have enough sleep.

Then last night I shut my finger in a door and realized I need to take a step back.

I love the practicality. We can drive long distances (when one is working) and know that if it does break down, i can fix almost anything on it even in the wilderness. I love that we can fit a full-size air mattress in the back. I love having more than one with compatible parts. I love that we do not have car payments and interest every month and that insurance is like $150 every six months for two people with 3 cars. And I love being inspired to figure a problem out when it comes up. Also love the art of putting together a really nice looking and running Saab.

I've heard we all get to this point before when we realize we need to take a break. I want to keep the Saabs - at least two of them. But I don't want to completely depend on a vehicle that is a driving restoration project. Plus I know my wife wants a different car.

What do you other Saab addicts do about this? Is there another type of car that is affordable and reliable and almost as safe as a 900? At least something that would keep the wife happy without breaking the bank? Any advice for a newly wed guy with too many Saabs?
