The only (and the main) difference lies in the signal systems which are:
2+1 for DI/APC and T5.2
4-cut for dizzy-based ignition systems
2-cut asymmetric for EZK systems
This all is determined by the shutter wheel or aperture disk or whatever you call it. So if one DIYs a (2+1)x2 aperture disk (the crankshaft goes twice faster than the camshaft) for the dizzy and properly times the whole thing, then it can be used as a source for CPS signal. But Zig really doesn't see any advantages of this design over the stock one and I fully agree with him on this.
Refer to the photo below for DI/APC+T5.2 aperture disk and google for the dizzy aperture wheel images. And keep in mind the crankshaft-to-camshaft ratio.
