To quote one of the 47 posts, most on topic of cracked lower a-arms, here's Swedecar:

"You are one of the few where it happened during driving forward at high speed.
Of all the hundreds of broken A-arms I have seen, only a few broke driving forward.
Most break when the driver backs out of the garage and turning the steering wheel.
How Saab have managed to not have a recall on this issue is beyond me, but they have. Maybe it's because Saab drivers know the car is special and don't worry to much over the quirkyness.
A rumor I heard many years ago said that Australia had a recall on the arms. Here in US, it have only been a service bulletin on the bolts that holds the A-arm bracket to the body.
What worries me though is that your Saab mechanic didn't see this way ahead of break. The car gives ample of warnings before the arm breaks by showing a hair line crack that groves bigger and bigger with time.
Every "real" Saab mechanic looks extra carefully at both arms when doing oil changes and can suggest replacement way ahead of breaking.
Anders"
Just type "broken a-arm" into the search box and read up on this. The lower A-arms are available as an aftermarket part, ScanTech I think, at a pretty good price, or used ones that show no cracks are a reasonable replacement.
Worrisome as it may be it's not a car-ownership-ending type of problem.
Wording search a little different, say "control arm," would turn up more. Rally drivers weld webbing across the interior, boxing these in solid, but that's overkill for regular driving.
