Looks like the original must have gotten a key stuck or something (the one that was in when I bought it had a different key than the locks). The PO said he took it to a shop to have it replaced and they did it wrong. The cylinder could slide right out with the key in, so I looked it over - someone really slashed it up. There are a couple of slashes running the length (up to down) of the cylinder that go right through the wall to the internals. Then the locking pin was ground out - they ground the whole thing out right down to the internals and left a huge hole in it. Reverse lockout did not seem to work, because I could pull the key out in any position. The only way to start the car was to really push the ignition key down while turning. Other than that, it would pop right up.
I'm wondering if the installer ran into the same problem as me and just cut out anything from the cylinder that could potentially bind.
