Good question. It's either that the knock-sensing algorithms in the EZK and APC boxes aren't good at filtering out the extraneous noise because the waveforms might be too similar or the C900 underhood area is a dandy resonator for radio noise.
It might also be that the knock sensing cable is the ideal length to pick up the RF noise.
I suspect that it's the former and it was more cost-effective to spec plug wires with better shielding than to spend lots of time to refine the knock sensing. Computational technology has come a very long way since the early '80s when these were developed.
