Owning and keeping a C900 is, to my mind, a life-style decision. Sure, you could buy one and pay many $ to a mechanic to keep it in good shape provided that you have the disposable income to pay the bills. A well-maintained C900 will last as long as the rust stays away. I'm guessing the Mississippi DOT doesn't put much salt down on the road, although the Gulf air might add some to your driving environment.
I am inordinately fond of my '93 C900, not only because it's a great car, but also because I take some amount of pride in knowing that my efforts and attention are responsible for keeping it as a great car (OK, I need a new headliner, the present version is pretty much gone and I'm getting showered by Roofium [At. No. 109] when I drive. and that's not cool).
If you want a cool car and don't want to do the maintenance and repairs I'd recommend a 2013 Passat-- I had one as a rental recently and it was a great ride, I'd definitely consider it if I was in the market-- but I'm not. I hope to be driving my C900 for the foreseeable future and, like I said above, I take some credit for every mile that rolls by and that makes all the difference.
