9000aero,
There are several things that will make the car behave as if it's in neutral when it's not but the combination of that condition along with difficulty finding or engaging individual gears does sort of point to a defective clutch. You won't know for sure without doing at least a little investigation. If rocking the car back and forth a little (engine off and clutch dis-engaged) allows you to select gears normally and securely then it probably is a clutch or transmission input problem. Inspecting the clutch shaft and clutch while rolling the car a little will tell you something and watching the axle-shafts while the car runs in gear (and presumably not moving) will tell you if it has damaged axle splines. Bear in mind that the C900 is a pretty easy car to replace the clutch in. On the other hand if the transmission is the cause of this issue it won't be as easily or cheaply fixed. An axle with stripped splines is not a big deal to repair either. I can be more specific about what to look for if you are motivated to go inspect it with a few tools and some time to spend.
