If the trany was bad ... Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Fri, 23 Aug 2013 09:33:37 In Reply to: Re: Agree, 9000 AerO, Fri, 23 Aug 2013 08:01:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First, will it roll? If it does, the differential is OK.
What kind of noises does it make with the clutch out and engine running? Pop the hood and listen. If you hear a kind of whirr coming from the front of the transmission, the primary chains are a little sloppy but not bad.
Turn the wheel to the left and right stop and look at the CV joint boots to see if they're ripped and show evidence that the drive axle has been spinning in the CV joint. You'd also hear or feel the vibration when you're trying to move it. Drive axles are easy to replace.
My bet is that the clutch disc is very worn and is what's causing the slippage.
But, if it's the original transmission and if the car has over 200k on it, I'd bet that the transmission will want to be rebuilt.
Do you do your own car repair work?
Wow, for $650, I'd grab a CE in a heartbeat if the body and interior were halfway decent.
