I used to have green crap in our c900s. That's the way they came, and that's the way most mechanics maintained them. I don't doubt that most cars go through life like that. If you change it religiously, it's probably fine. I think it should probably be changed at least annually though. Merc coolant works better and can go a little longer, but still needs to be changed regularly (I figure about 2 years).
Both our cars, prior to switching out the green coolant, rotted radiators (probably happens anyway), and the 2.1L blew a headgasket due to coolant rot coupled with bad design. It was exactly as described on Tom Townsend's site, and was repaired as per his recommendations. I've pasted a link to his diatribe below. Essential reading for any c900 owner imho, and one can then make a judgement call on what to do after that. If you are religious about changing the green crap and it's been fine all these years, keep doing what you're doing!
