Yeah, but what I don't get is why VAG G12++ AND VAG G13 are both Glysantin G40. Maybe just to give a new name to the commercially released G40? I dunno. Anyway...

You can see that G05 and G48 should be compatible. The difference is that G05 has nitrates and G48 does not. G05 is acidic, G48 is basic.
G30, G33, G34, G40 should all be compatible. The difference between seems limited to their pH with the exception of G40, which is special with its Si-OAT.
I have spent way too much time on this over the last year, but I believe it's all accurate.
The thing I find telling is that Saab switched from HOAT to OAT, and that VW switched from HOAT to OAT to Si-OAT and silicates to no silicates - and recommends refilling old HOAT systems from the '90s with Si-OAT.
So, all that said, I know nothing. But I *think* the best thing you can possibly do right now is drain & refill with G40. It really appears to be the best thing out there in terms of performance and protection.
I'm going to keep using green stuff on my '80 and '85. Heh.
