I was paranoid of using the starter housing as a lever point. Using a big screw driver placed in one of the holes in the pressure plate and then the screw driver on a protruding piece of cast and pounding it with a rubber hammer when I couldn't reach the holes. Took a long time -- one of the nuts fell out and I only found this out when I couldn't get the spacer in and had to do it all over again. I also had to cut 1"1/2 off the end of the spacer tool and bend the "handle" back to 90+ degrees to the "handle" of the spacer tool wouldn't bind on the slave. Then had to Dremel off a half inch of the Allen wrench so I could get the bottom Allen bolt off the slave. So, now have the spacer in and the slave loose and the nuts out. Tomorrow will remove the shaft and see if I can get the package out. I think I'll have to unhook the positive line to the battery to get clearance. Thanks for all the help. I think I'll actually be able to do this...lower back permitting.
Oh, how do you get the spacer out of the old fingers once you get it out of the car? Use a press, or the same method of jack under car that I'll use to get the spacer in the new clutch?
Funny, now that I kind of know what I'm doing, and have some home made modified tools, I don't think I could really cut much time off this job. Two hours is unthinkable. Don't get me wrong, once it's done it'll be a very satisfying challenge overcome.
