T37 parts bummer Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Tue, 19 Aug 2014 17:31:35 In Reply to: Re: automatics for grab??, Paul Bob, Tue, 19 Aug 2014 15:08:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Paul, Sorry to rain on your parade but getting T37 parts has always been a problem. The T37 was indeed based on the design of the T35 but even the earliest T37s Had very few hard parts in common with the T35 and as the T37 evolved over the production run of the C900 Saab differences increased. Many of the parts appear to be the same in parts and service book pictures or the like but in fact are not physically interchangeable.
When I was rebuilding T37s daily I really wanted T35 parts to work because they could be purchased cheap from BW parts dealers while T37 parts could only be bought through Saab and at much higher prices because Saab held BW to a "Captive Parts" contract. You can use T35 drum clutch plates and discs and the rear band, some of the seals and o'rings and a few other consumable parts when rebuilding a T37 but nearly all the hard parts, including the ones that usually need replacement like pumps and front drums, are T37 specific. Then as now the key to doing a proper T37 rebuild is having a very large stock of T37 cores on hand to swipe parts from.
