The throttle plate adjusting screw is not for setting the idle. It is only for an overcenter stop, so you adjust the throttle plate to be just slightly overcenter, therfore, plate can't get stuck or act sticky.
If you have idle problems, either too low or too high, then there are issues with timing, or vacuum, connections, or a list of things a couple blocks long.
Check your throttle position sensor for connection cleanliness and test the function of the switch to see that it is doing what it is supposed to. If it's giving the ECU a false signal, then it will teach the ECU to do other wacky things.
NTC sensor is another simple part in the mix that could foul up the ECU readings.
Making sure the ignition system is in good shape and timing is set correctly. Fuel system pressure and good gas is always helpful too :-)
Good luck!
