AMM/MAF issues??

Hi. I am trying to trouble-shoot a problem that has just cropped up for me on my 1991 900 Turbo convert. It now has intermittent idling problems but what is really a problem is that it doesn't like any more than a quarter throttle before a substantial misfire/stumble that jerks the whole drivetrain.
Seems to be more prevalent at lower rmps but will happen at higher revs also. It now just doesn't like much of a throttle opening. I have been reading the BBs and this seems to be a AMM/MAF thing. I have the later 2.4, and I did clean it and checked the connector. Engine light comes on but not consistently, and had been coming on when it was driving fine. Thoughts?? Thanks
