Thanks for the info. I thought it might be ignition related, so checked the cap and rotor, and cleaned the contacts as well as the connections on the cable from the coil to the distributor which were a little funky. Made no difference. I also noticed that the wire from a little condenser thing sitting on top of the coil to the side of the distributor had broken, so I fixed that, again to no avail. I have checked the rubber boots and connectors upstream of the throttle and can find nothing leaking.
The other issue is that it cannot keep a decent idle now as it wanders like a lost puppy and occasionally dies.
