Ed,
While timing a car with the standard old fashioned timing light is very straight forward, it's a little elusive on a C900T. Not only is the timing mark in a very ackward area, the timing marks on the flywheel are difficult to see. They are usually dirty. I've messed around with the ignition advance diaphragm in a couple of different ways, including the adjustable one from Brad. Never been overly impressed.
Seat of the pants tuning has worked best for me. Find yourself a nice quite road early on a Saturday morning. Make several "pulls" with minor adjusting of your distributor. Once you find the sweet spot, scribe a line on your distributor/cylinder head. A sweet spot is the point in which your turbo pulls the smoothest and hardest. Done.
