How many miles on the chassis?
The reason I asked about the tires is that they might be the 80,000 mile tires that are hard, and do ride rough and tough. They could also be over 7 years old and at the end of the rope so to speak....
Some of the other causes of harsh ride
Out of round tires
Motor mounts shot
Loose suspension points
Heavy wheel assemblies
I don't think I would be looking at the springs as the problem or the Konis unless they are failing. Take the car out and run the piss out of it on curved roads, and then feel the shocks -- if they aren't heated up from the valving dissipating the heat, then the shock might be shot.
Doubtful to me that the springs are causing the harsh ride unless they are totally the wrong ones, broken, or causing the rear to sag or sag on one side or the other.
The adjustable Konis set the rebound, not the compression. If the Konis are working, then I'd be looking at tire problems, motor mounts, suspension attach point bushings.
Just remember...you will find at least three things wrong with these cars, and then three things at each of the that root you found....so, be looking for about 12 things wrong, fix those, and you will find a great handling vehicle.
