The SPG came with factory installed lowering springs, and is stiff by design. The down side being the harsh ride at low speed, the tradeoff for improved handling and high speed stability.
The Konis, even on the lowest setting, will significantly improve cornering stability, again at the cost of ride comfort.
Your car is 25 years old. What sort of history does it have. Mileage? Are you running original bushings? Have any replacement bushings been done in polyurethane? This could add harshness to the ride. It is very likely that your car is a candidate for suspension restoration.
If the photograph is an accurate representation of you current weather status, the cold temperature may also be a factor.
I would advise waiting until warmer weather allows you the opportunity to find a quiet twisty little country road and put the car through its paces. You may find that it more than makes up for a few bumps.
Also wouldn't hurt to put it up on a lift and get a good look at conditions.
Any changes made to improve ride comfort will likely result in a degradation of handling. It may be that the taller, softer standard Turbo suspension fits your comfort needs better. In that case, you might be better off trading the SPG to someone who can enjoy it for what it is.
For the record, I drive a '93 900 CE with factory lowered suspension, Koni reds set on the lowest setting, Yokohama Avid Envigor 195/60-15's on 15x6 9000 rims. I feel every crack in the road, and yes, it inspires a constant stream of comments. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
