Underneath the XR4Ti is very similar to an E30 - a fairly primitive independent rear suspension setup. Certainly functional, but not nearly as complex as anything made in the last decade or two. The XR is a little more neutral than the E30 and less prone to snap oversteer - which I like. Although it lacks refinement like the 900 or E30 as it comes from a humble background, it nicely splits the difference between the 900's power delivery and the E30's dynamics which makes it a very nice drive. Having many, many years of successful motorsports engagements doesn't hurt, either. ;)
Mine is almost 30 years old, has nearly 300,000 miles, and still manages to excite. 300hp, big brakes, sticky tires, suspension work, and a quickie weight loss program make for big fun out of an old car. It nowhere near as polished as the SPG, but what it lacks there it makes up in dynamics. Not sure I'd have it as my only car, but as one of the cars I don't know what could replace it!
