Sounds like the expansion valve. Are you using a full gauge set so you can see what the high side is doing? Is the "red" part of the gauge you have indicating suction?
I had a similar problem on my C900 after installing a new aftermarket expansion valve that turned out to be defective. Everything was right but the low side kept going into suction. Replaced with another valve and it's been blowing cold for a dozen years now. The same type of symptom could be also be caused by a hose that's deteriorating interally.
If you have any question about the oil in the system the thing to do is flush it out yourself and add the correct oil charge so everything is in a known state. (You don't flush the compressor or drier. Shake out as much oil as possible from the compressor. Drier would just be replaced.)
