It's easier to pull the fuel pump and look at the hoses that are used to connect the pump insert to the pump platform structure. When they are scabbed in for pump replacement, people don't pay attention to the hose type for immersion. That's what I was getting at. The other grommets, etc, should all still be good in a 1989, but you never know.....
And, also that might be an early 89 pump with the large diameter bosch pump instead of the skinny walbro. It's hard to tell what went into the car when it was new, as more than likely, it's been swapped out later in it's life.
Swapping in a late model tank is a good idea too, but careful on the connections, etc for sending unit as there are some differences. You just have to work through it like you're starting from scratch.
