Thanks all for input on this issue. See attached picture for the hoses (marked with a red circle) that are filled with coolant and really, from my respective, limit movement of the pipe that goes into the turbo.
After I wrote my first post yesterday I ended up taking out all of the air filter assembly and then removed the shroud bolt on the lower left (driver's) side (the one that also holds the red cable from the battery leading to the starter). I got some plastic shims to hold back the shroud and hope not to have to take any other shroud bolts out - time will tell.
All told, this is a much bigger job than I would have imagined. Of course it could be worse: years ago I dated a girl who drove a Mustang II. When the starter went on that car, her father, who was a very good auto mechanic in his spare time, had to remove half the front suspension just to get to the starter! Crazy.
