I am sure it's the heater valve - the core is in the center of the car and if it failed it would leak coolant down the exhaust tunnel. The valve is directly over the driver's feet, and when the inlet or outlet fails you get this exact scenario - a load of coolant pumping into the footwell. Moreover, c900 heater cores just don't fail very often, but the valves sadly do. :(
