My 1994 900 turbo convertible with automatic transmission serves me very well for the last 8 years except battery drain issue. Car would not start if it hadn’t been driven for more than one week. So I disconnected the battery cables whenever I was away for a period of time. I just reconnected the battery cables upon my return and the car would start right up every time.
Two months ago I disconnected the cables when I was away. Car would not start when I reconnected the battery. The engine would not crank at all, dead silence, but the headlights, radio and windshield wipers all were working fine. I thought it might be due to the issues related to the ignition neutral safety switch. So I adjusted the transmission lever several times and it didn’t help at all. One day later I turned the key again, the car started right up. And the car started every time without issue since then. I took the car to a Saab specialist for diagnostic test. He did a bunch of testings including voltage drop test and couldn’t find the source of engine not cranking.
I was away last week, so I disconnected the battery cables as I used to do. The engine would not crank when I turned the ignition key upon my return. I waited one day and the car started right up without any issue.
So this is the second time the engine will not crank right after battery reconnected. The engine will crank normally after battery has been connected for one day. Do you guys have any idea what is the problem here? What failed components in the starting system need the battery power to juicy up for one day before it will function again?
Thank you advance for your feedback.
Thanks,
TC
