One or two things to keep in mind... Dropping the differential is no big deal. Since you're down there wrestling with swapping inner drivers, it's absolutely no big deal to remove the differential cover plate should you need to swap sides for your drivers. Order a new gasket and you're ready to go (sometimes you can even recycle the cover gasket if it separates cleanly). It only adds about five minutes of additional labor to remove/re-install the plate.
Another thing...others can chime in here as I'm not a transmission expert...your drivers are matched to your differential by some critical margins regarding crown wheel backlash (those circular shims around your driver housings are the key part here).
If you simply swap the driver sides, you're maintaining the original measurement.
But if you throw in a new/different driver, you probably will need to go through the crown wheel gear backlash adjustment process because you're changing the shims recipe via new/different equipment. Failure to do so may destroy your transmission.
I've never done it but the process is relevant to a transmission that partially and rapidly disassembled when the crown gear blew up (this is years ago).
I THINK this is an area of concern for you here if you're considering throwing in a new/different driver. Others in this forum are far more transmission-knowledgeable than me.
I'd swap sides and see how that goes.
Good luck.
