Just a little more clarification. Each driver housing stays on the original sides they do not interchange. The driver side has the speedometer gear hole on it so it stays on the driver side and you are correct the shims stay on the side that they came out of.to make it easier like I said in my other post I would only change out the passenger side .if the driver side was fine which you stated it was I would leave it alone. And definitely put some sort of sealant on the bolts when you put them back in or it will leak.I don't think you're supposed to use silicone but I could be wrong.hopefully between everybody posting you've gotten the picture. If not keep asking questions.
