86t hard shifting, atf leak Posted by inca99 [Email] (#1862) [Profile/Gallery] (more from inca99) on Tue, 6 Oct 2020 09:03:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I picked up an 86 turbo (auto) a few months ago. It's cleaned up and running well finally. The issue right now is an auto trans fluid leak. I'm thinking it might be a cooler line, but will get details after I pick it up from the tranny shop today. There is also a hard shifting issue after it is warmed up. When it's cold or when I manually shift from 2 to 3, it's fine, but by itself, it does not shift as smoothly, like from 1 to 2. The transmission shop dropped the pan and found metal shavings, quoting me a price of $3000 to repair. I'm really fond of this thing - it's in nice condition, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do to remedy this rather small issue, other than a full rebuild. The shop is reliable and honest in my experience. I imagine it is better for them to quote a complete job, rather than finding an inexpensive solution that might not cover their long term liability (...that's what I would do as a shop owner), but it's a large repair bill for a $350 car!
