Inca99,
Has the transmission shop you're considering done many Saab T37 rebuilds? I rebuilt over a hundred T37's in my time as a Saab transmission specialist and I would advise you to talk to someone who has done the same before you contract with any transmission shop. There was a time when I would typically rebuild one or two T37's a week alongside various Saab manuals and ZF automatics and the T37 was only easy to (properly) rebuild because: 1) I could buy certain essential new parts from Saab (the only source for those), 2) I had a mountain of good use parts and cores, 3) I had all the Saab special T37 tools and manuals, 4) I had machinists grinding and reconditioning various parts for me.
A typical transmission shop has none of those resources. If you are lucky enough that your T37 needs only friction, rings, rubber and gaskets you might come out OK but that describes about 1 in 3 or 4 T37's I dealt with, the rest needed one or more major hard parts replaced.
I apologize for being a downer but I'd hate to see you commit three grand for unicorn repair. On a number of occasions I was pulled in to bail out big brand transmission shops that had promised their customer a T37 rebuild and couldn't make it happen.
You have a number of good options for fixing or replacing that unit just be aware that rebuilding a T37 isn't like rebuilding a TF8 or TH350.
If I thought I could charge $3000 for rebuilt T37's I'd go back to doing it but the first step would be to acquire about 40 cores with expectations of making maybe 8 good units. And demand is pretty low.
