Thomas - you are way ahead of me.
I got a 1 PSI smoke machine ($70 or so) and did not even have to use the smoke. It was obvious with a bit of soapy water that it was leaking at the lock ring! Incredibly easy to hook up for anyone else that goes this route. You pop the hose off the rollover valve in the rear fender and connect it there.
Once again one of the idiot fittings broke off in the pump so need to replace that too (again!).
I have the lock ring tool but it is really hard to stop the pump twisting when you tighten it down!
Did you use a lot of vaseline on the O ring. It looked like it was still leaking in the same area so I am hoping there is not a tank crack.
I just put the cheap pro-parts pump in last time. I'm wondering if their gasket is up for it. I might get a Saab one too as this is such a PITA - especially the fittings.
I never thought I would have to say this but I would rather do the 9-3SS pump again than thiseven though you have to drop the tank. You really wail on the lock ring - again with the right tool.
