Commemorative Edition Question (long explanation - short question Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Tue, 26 Jan 2021 08:11:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got into a little snit fit with a seller on Fleabay. He advertised (and I bought) what he claimed was an authentic Commemorative Edition glove box door. When it arrived, it appeared to me to be an aftermarket item. I based this on the fact that the stain did not match my dash and ash tray: mine were a much redder-orange color than this one, which was more of a chocolate brown. All of the Commemorative dashes that I've ever seen had this same red/orange stain.
Another tell was that the wooden applique did not fit perfectly in the upper left and bottom left corners(curved corners) leaving a small gap of a 1.16 to 1/32 of an inch. I couldn't imagine Saab mass-producing an item that didn't fit properly. While it appeared to be a very high quality aftermarket part (real wood), the really bad match made it useless to me.
The seller swore that this was an authentic part and initially refused to process a refund. He maintained he was also a Saab enthusiast his whole life, owned three Saabs, that he was the second owner of the car and personally knew the original owner etc., etc, etc. After much wrangling with the seller over a refund, we eventually settled on a restocking fee to cover his original shipping fee etc. In the process of evaluating my position, I googled Saab 900 commemorative dashes, walnut dashes, etc. to see if there was ever any other staining than the reddish/orange-brown I am familiar with. in the process, I didn't see a single instance of a glovebox door that was not obviously part of an aftermarket product.
So here's the question: were the Commemorative Edition dashes, just the dash and ashtray? All of the photos I found had the glovebox door in black vinyl. Is it just that simple - there is no such thing as a Commemorative Edition glove box door?
