same car&owner, diff'rent decade- 1992 900S 'vert. I wrote the original post above (saabrage). Hopefully I've matured somewhat and am back at it with more peace, but still not understanding. I parked this car in a climate controlled garage for the past 11 years. Now I'm in my upper 50s, it's now or never.
Fresh fuel, new filter and plugs. Double checked all timing marks carefully, distributor pointed right at #1 at TDC., plug wire order is correct... It will start, and run, but very roughly. My timing light clipped to #1 wire fires about 45 degrees early (over past 2 oclock). Turning the distributor understandably does nothing to change that. I've included a pic to further illustrate what is going on.
EZK has been replaced with a known good unit, as has ECU. I had some difficulty when I changed my crank pulley that caused me to order a new shutter wheel (I'd bent the old one slightly while prying the pulley off.) But AFAIK the shutter wheel can only go on one way, so a misalignment shouldn't happen..... right? But what else could it be? Have any of ya'll ever encountered this situation?
I'm thinking my pocket oscilloscope on the crank sensor might reveal the culprit eventually, but worried that running the motor that far out of time-even for testing- might be detrimental.
Apologies for what may well be a fundamental, basic oversight or misunderstanding, but I am stuck.
