Steering Rack replacement - Lower U-Joint Won't Budge Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Sat, 3 Jul 2021 13:35:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'90 turbo convertible.
Anybody have a good solution for freeing the lower U-joint from the rack input shaft. This one appears to be rusted on. Pinch bolt is out. Pinch bolt on the intermediate shaft extension is out so the shaft will telescope in and out.
Tried soaking it with PB Blaster, prying it up with a BF screwdriver, expanding the pinch joint with a big screwdriever and a chisel. The thing just won't budge off the steering rack input shaft.
Usually they slide right off when the pinch bolt is removed. This one, however ....
Looked back in the C900 board archives and the last time I did a steering rack was 2004. That one was much easier.
